INSARAG World Team Leaders Meeting (2002)
- INSARAG (International Search and Rescue Advisory Group) falls under the auspices of OCHA, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, based in Geneva
- Each year, one of the INSARAG member countries is requested to host the SAR World Team Leaders' Meeting
- In 2002 it was the turn of INSARAG’s newest member, Rescue South Africa
- It was the first time the event was held on the African continent
- 17 countries were represented at what was deemed to be a very successful meeting
Train the Trainer (2006)
- USAID and Gauteng Local Government funded American Structural Collapse Rescue Techniques technicians from Fairfax & LA Counties to visit SA
- Their mission was to train South African trainers in Structural Collapse Rescue Techniques (who will in turn train SA firefighters)
- Facilitation and logistics for this training were provided by Rescue South Africa
