Intended Audience: 
This course is designed for any persons who in the course of their normal duties would possibly be part of a response to a swift water incident. This includes first turn out fire and EMS crews.

Desired Outcome:   
Please note that after attending this program the candidate will not be competent to perform contact rescues in any water rescue situation.
After having attended this course the candidate will be aware of the hazards posed by swiftly flowing water.
The candidate will be able to don swift water PPE.
The candidate will be familiar with throw bag based rescue.
The candidate will be able to assume the swift water position and attempt self rescue by entering an eddy should he/she accidentally fall into the water.

Duration: 1 Day.

Minimum/maximum no of delegates: 20

Course Prerequisites:  
The candidate should be able to communicate in English.

Core Content:

  • The anatomy of a river and its associated hazards.
  • Swift water rescue personal protective equipment.
  • The sequential approach to swift water rescue and forming an action plan.
  • Throw bag based rescue.
  • The swift water rescue position and self rescue.
